The ideal candidate will possess the following –

Job Requirements: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to complete all areas outlined for this position in a satisfactory manner. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and / or abilities necessary to meet the minimum job requirements of this position.

Duties and Responsibilities: Respond to emergencies on a 24-hour on call basis.

Scope the job – provide estimates – manage the job costs – employees, materials and trades – bill the job and collect amounts outstanding.

Obtaining signatures on all documents as required by management. Perform any other duties and assume any other responsibilities as required or assigned. Protect the assets of the company and its customers. Work in compliance with Staff Policies and Health and Safety Policies.

Education: Completion of high school, Completion of college, or CET an asset Credentials (certificates, licenses, memberships, courses etc.)

Xactimate knowledge an asset Computerized estimating – Microsoft Office Suite

Experience: 3 – 5 years

Reports to: General Manager, Sr. Project Manager

Major Work Area: Construction, Maintenance / repair, Renovation, Historical Restoration.

Type of Establishment/Work Setting Experience: Commercial, Institutional, Industrial, Residential.

Transportation / Travel Information: Willing to travel. Must hold valid driver’s license.

Work Location: Various locations.

Own Tools/ Equipment: Tools, steel-toed safety boots, hard hat.

Areas of Specialization: Estimating and understanding of building principles.

Specific Skills: Well organized – Good communication skills. Knowledge of building principles. Prepare estimates of labour and material costs, Prepare bill of material and scope of work. Estimate pre-contract costs, select sub-trades, Monitor, and adjust contract expenditures. Able to work in a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines.

Additional Skills: Provide economic feasibility studies and preliminary estimates for proposed projects. Read and interpret blueprints, drawings and specifications. Schedule and co-ordinate work on sites. Instruct apprentices. Supervise other workers.

Essential Skills: Reading text, Document use, Numeracy, Writing, Oral communication, working with others, Problem solving, Decision making, Critical thinking, Job task planning and organizing, Significant use of memory, Finding information, Computer use, Continuous learning.

Work Site Environment: Office work – professional environment. When scoping the job or meeting with the customer/adjuster the individual may be working at heights, confined spaces, noisy, dusty, varying temperatures, indoors and outdoors.

Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job this individual must have a full range of body movement including walking, standing, sitting, lifting floor to waist, lifting waist to shoulder, stair climbing, ladder climbing and bending or twisting. There may be periods of chemical exposure and times when this individual will be operating motorized equipment in order to gain access to the building.

Measures of Performance: The Estimator shall be deemed to be performing in an acceptable manner when the following have been accomplished:

  1. Management is satisfied that estimator has followed all company policies and procedures.
  2. Estimator obtains signatures on Authorization form before starting job.
  3. Estimator has provided scope and informed Employees and sub-contractors of their responsibilities which will enable them to perform their work safely and as a result their work meets or exceeds normal acceptable standards for the type being performed.
  4. Work performed is within the time and material budgets allowed for this project and profit margins are reasonable given the type of work.
  5. Customers are satisfied and have signed a job completion form and – complaints resolved immediately and the deductible or private work have been paid.
  6. Adjusters and Insurance Representatives are satisfied with our client and the claim is paid promptly.
  7. Management can see that the Estimators conduct is professional at all times and encourages business development.

Terms of Employment: Permanent, Full Time, On Call, Overtime, Weekend, Day, Night, Evening.
